One major reason is that reward credit cards come with very high interest rates. Some people spend more on their reward credit card just for the purpose of collecting points without paying attention to their monthly balances. As a result, they have to put off their monthly payment and get charged with a high interest.

It is easy to lose control of your spending if you do not keep a  a sense of obligation and self-discipline. Credit Counseling: Do You Need It?

Is debt overwhelming you? Do have credit up to your eyeballs? Debt collectors knocking on your door? Trouble paying the bills, let alone trying to save money for your retirement? The truth is , you are far from alone, and you might like to consider credit counseling.

Many credit counseling organizations are nonprofit and work with you to solve your financial problems. But be aware that just because an organization says it is ‘non profit’ does not guarantee that its services are free or affordable or that its services are legitimate. In fact, some credit counseling organizations charge high fees, some of which may be hidden, or urge consumers to make ‘voluntary’ contributions that cause them to fall deeper into debt.

Most credit counselors offer services through local offices, the Internet, or on the telephone. If possible, find an organization that offers in-person counseling. Your financial institution, local consumer protection agency, and friends and family also may be good sources of information and referrals.

Bad Credit Reports: What Can You Do?

If you, like many New Zealander’s have found yourself in a situation where your credit report is negative, then your credit ranking will be in trouble. If you have done all you can to check that your credit report is accurate, then the only thing that will repair your credit report is going to be time, and effort. But your credit report can be repaired.

A consumer reporting company can report most accurate negative information for seven years and bankruptcy information for 10 years. Information about an unpaid judgment against you can be reported for seven years or until the statute of limitations runs out, whichever is longer. There is a standard method for calculating the seven-year reporting period. Generally, the period runs from the date that the event took place.

Your credit file or credit report may not reflect all your credit accounts. Most national department store and all-purpose bank credit card accounts are included in your file, but not all. Some travel, entertainment, petrol card companies, local retailers, and credit unions are among those that usually aren’t included.
